September 20 10:00 A.M
Leaves crunch a hurt tune under lighthearted footsteps
“It’s been a while since we spoke last
What was it—the beginning of summer?”
June 12 2:00 P.M
Heavy breathing mixed with blue jay’s caws
“Call me back! I have something to tell you”
October 12 8:45 P.M
Wind hurdles through the sketchy scene,
impatiently sharpening his words
“Look, I’m sorry! what do you want me to say
I changed! And what’s wrong with that
Everything changes…
Nothing can last forever.”
October 30 11:12 P.M
No song is whistled and a tree’s fall will never be heard
Nothing in the desolate morning,
except the stench of decay autumn brings
“I’m sorry—truly.”
November 1 12:01 A.M
“I know I said, I wouldn’t call
I know you don’t want to hear from me,
But you can trust that I will call you again next year
And every year after that.
I will call you when it rains”
When the heavens mourn this anniversary
“When it’s dark out and I did something stupid”
When regret soothes every part of me
“When there’s nothing left to say.”
When what’s between us is unspoken,
The worst promise I’ve made will break.
“And always
For today.
Happy birthday.”
I hope you think of me when the candle blows out
I imagine the smoke traveling,
warming up the cool air of late fall.
October 1 9:54 P.M
Soft rain dances with the harsh thunder
A man speaks, starting with a sigh.
“It’s raining right now, ‘bout that time, right?
I wonder if it’s in your area.
Are you still afraid of thunder,
And do you still love the fog in fall mornings?”
