Ellipsism

By: Catherine Day

Ellipsism–n. the sense of sadness you feel

when you realize you’re never going to see the future.

Art by Jaden Simmons

Dusty bones crumbling to ash and dirt,

Loamy earth in my skull, plants sprouting from my eye sockets.

A concrete pillar through my ribcage,

My body,

The foundation of a new world.

My eyes,

Dark, unseeing.

My only legacy,

The people who walk above.

This new reality is all theirs.

Will they know my sacrifice?
