Gianna Gonzalez, The Cat’s Lick.
Nowadays, when circuits only grow and grow,
I bring forth a robot, to challenge my academic foes,
With a flick of my thumb, I tapped “do my task,”
A miracle worker, how I longed for a bask.
It churns out equations with robotic delight,
But something felt funny, not quite right.
My math homework turned to a tail of a cat,
Who danced with a hedgehog in a polka dot hat.
“What’s the derivative of x squared?” I had asked,
But it offered me sushi and told me the forecast.
I’ll ask it to write me essays on Rome,
But it just spun me a yarned toy of a boy with a comb.
My history grades were on the edge of a cliff,
As my computer drew pictures of penguins and riffs.
My English assignment, of a girl in disguise,
Became a haiku about dog food pies.
I turned it in proudly, all glimmering new,
But my teacher took one look and said, “Shoo!”
Oh, the computers are clever, that’s all very true
But when I showed them my homework they all said “Boohoo.”
