rain taps taps taps against windowpanes
against my head
against my heart
water dripping down down down
onto the pavement
into my eyes
into my mouth into yours into you
sweaters wrap and weave and consume and pull pull pull
it is just us in the soggy polyester blend
sweet and small and silver and gold
hands grasp at sleeves at strands at shirts at skin skin skin
i can taste the rain-splattered windows
underneath your fingernails
it is different from the tears on your collar,
flipped up for warmth
pulled into doors into sheets into hearts into sweaters into puddles into fire
wet and warm and whirring and woven and whimsical
rain rain stay another day
flood the streets pound on windows pleading to be let in
dripdripdrip love into you into me into us into watery wonderlands
lick at lingering rays of light
linger on my doorstep
wrap us in another polyester blend,
this one not so damp
with stale tears.
